Canadice Lake Bass Fishing Guide
Pristine Wilderness Smallmouth Bass on New York's Most Untouched Finger Lake
Book a Canadice Lake TripWhy Canadice Lake Is a Hidden Gem for Bass Fishing
Canadice Lake is unlike any other fishery in the Finger Lakes region. As the smallest of New York's eleven Finger Lakes, it stretches just over three miles long and sits tucked away in a forested valley with zero shoreline development. There are no houses, no docks, no marinas — just pristine wilderness and some of the healthiest smallmouth bass water in the entire state. The lake is part of the Rochester water supply system, which means its watershed has been protected for over a century. The result is crystal-clear water and a bass population that thrives in an environment most anglers only dream about.
Because Canadice Lake is horsepower-restricted — no gas motors allowed — the fishing pressure here is a fraction of what you'll find on the larger Finger Lakes. Most bass boats can't even launch here. That's a huge advantage for my clients, because I fish Canadice with my custom 15-foot rig specifically built for HP-restricted waters. While other anglers are limited to kayaks and canoes, we're running efficient electronics and covering water the way it needs to be covered to find the biggest fish in the lake.
My Experience on Canadice Lake
I've spent 288 days on Canadice Lake, and this fishery has a special place in my heart. It's one of those waters that rewards patience and structure knowledge above everything else. My biggest smallmouth here went 7.7 pounds — a true giant for any body of water, let alone a small wilderness lake. But the story that sticks with me most is seeing a monster fish multiple times on the same structure that follows his friend to the boat while I catch his much smaller friend. That kind of encounter is what keeps me coming back to Canadice. You know the big ones are there, and every cast on the right piece of structure could be the one.
With 40 years of meticulous notes on this lake, I know where the fish set up in every season and under every weather condition. Canadice is a structure fishery through and through — the bass relate to rock piles, drop-offs, and underwater transitions that you won't find without the right electronics and the time invested to map them out. That's exactly what I bring to every trip. My Lowrance and Garmin LiveScope units on the custom 15-foot rig let me show you fish in real time on structure that most people don't even know exists.
As a licensed USCG Captain with over 25 years of tournament experience, three career wins, 24 top-10 finishes, and more than $575,000 in career earnings on the FLW and MLF circuits, I approach every guided trip with the same intensity I bring to competition. When you fish Canadice Lake with me, you're getting a tournament-caliber experience on one of the most underrated fisheries in New York.

Canadice Lake Seasonal Guide
Spring (April – June)
Smallmouth begin moving up from deeper winter haunts as the water warms. Pre-spawn fish stage on main-lake structure and transition to shallower rock before moving into spawning areas. This is an excellent time to target quality fish on jigs, tubes, and ned rigs worked slowly along the bottom contours.
Summer (July – September)
Bass spread out across the lake's structure during summer. The clear water and lack of boat traffic make for productive sight-fishing opportunities on calm mornings. Drop shot, small swimbaits, and finesse techniques excel when the fish are relating to deeper rock piles and ledges in the main basin.
Fall (October – November)
Fall is the best season on Canadice Lake, and it's when the biggest fish of the year are caught. Smallmouth feed aggressively on baitfish stacking up around structure before winter. The bite windows can be phenomenal — I've had days in the fall where every fish is over four pounds. Structure fishing with reaction baits, jerkbaits, and jigs produces trophy-caliber smallmouth consistently.
